HDR10 and HLG, 10-bit colour and tone mapping

4K describes image resolution; HDR describes how a video represents light and colour. The CnX Player 5.0 release supports HDR10 and HLG, 10-bit colour and studio 4:2:2 10-bit content. Advanced HDR tone mapping supports viewing HDR sources on SDR or HDR displays.

An SDR display does not gain HDR hardware capabilities through tone mapping. The result depends on the video, PC, screen and settings. The free trial on every video lets you try Pro playback with the files you actually watch.

A lava flow at night split down the middle: dull on the SDR side, vivid on the HDR side, with format badges.
Illustrative comparison: the SDR side is a simulation.
